Recria e terminação de novilhos de corte em pastagem natural submetida a diferentes manejos | Beef cattle growing and fattening on natural pasture submitted to different management types

O trabalho foi conduzido na região da Campanha do RS, no município de Quarai, com objetivo de avaliar o desempenho animal e produção vegetal de uma pastagem natural submetida ou não a utilização de insumos: pastagem natural (PN), pastagem natural adubada (PNA) e melhorada com adubação + sobressemeadura de espécies hibernais (PNM). O experimento ocorreu entre 07/07/2007 e 10/12/2008 em um delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições, sendo os dados submetidos à análise de variância considerando as estações do ano como medidas repetidas no tempo. Foram utilizados bezerros Angus e mestiços com idade e peso médio inicial de 9 meses e 217 kg, respectivamente. Na fase da recria (07/07/2007 a 03/05/2008), os tratamentos PNA e PNM mantiveram uma maior massa de forragem verde, sobretudo na primavera, resultante de maiores taxas de acúmulo de forragem. O ganho de peso vivo médio diário do PNA (0,581 kg/dia) foi superior a PN (0,473 kg/dia). Maiores ganhos médios diários foram obtidos no outono (0,869 kg/dia). A carga animal obtida no PNM (701 kg/ha) e PNA (667 kg/ha), durante a primavera, foram as mais altas. O ganho por área durante toda a recria - 302 dias - do tratamento PN (224 kg/ha) foi inferior ao PNA (310 kg/ha) e PNM (287 kg/ha). Independente do tratamento, a média da massa de forragem, teor de matéria seca, taxa de acúmulo e altura explicaram 60 % do ganho de peso. Na fase da terminação (17/07/2008 a 10/12/2008), a massa de forragem total e a altura do pasto apresentaram diferenças entre os tipos de manejo e estações do ano. A taxa de lotação e a massa de forragem verde sofreram interação tratamento x estação. O ganho por área ao longo do experimento foi superior para PNA (259 kg/ha) e PNM (263 kg/ha) comprado ao PN (126 kg/ha). O ganho médio diário foi superior para os novilhos Angus (1,087 kg/dia) e para estação de inverno (1,251 kg/dia). Não houve diferença para a área de olho de lombo entre tratamentos e grupo racial na data do abate. A espessura de gordura subcutânea sofreu interação tratamento x grupo racial, onde novilhos mestiços depositaram mais gordura no PNA e novilhos Angus no PNM. Animais mestiços atingiram menor peso ao abate (505 kg), porém, maior rendimento de carcaça (51,6%). Somente os animais mantidos no PN não atingiram acabamento suficiente para a comercialização. Apesar da boa produtividade da pastagem em sua condição natural, a utilização de insumos permite melhor desempenho animal durante as fases de recria/terminação, possibilitando o abate de novilhos precoce independente do grupo racial. O ambiente pastoril determina diferentes respostas produtivas conforme a genética utilizada. O cruzamento é uma alternativa para incrementar atributos importantes da carcaça e diminuir o tempo da fase de terminação.

The experiment was conducted at Campanha region of RS, in Quaraí district, with the goal of to evaluate the animal performance and vegetal production of a natural pasture submitted or not to different inputs: no inputs (NP); fertilized (NPF) and fertilized and oversown. The experiment was done during July 7th (2007) to December 10th (2008) with treatments distributed in a randomized complete blocks design with three replicates. The data were submitted to the variance analyses considering the seasons as time repeated measures. It was used Aberdeen Angus and crossbreed calves with nine months of initial age and 217 kg of live weight, on average. During the growing phase (July 7th of 2007 to December 10th of 2008), the PNA and PNM treatments showed higher green forage mass mainly at spring, as result of higher forage accumulation rate. Average live weight daily gain was higher at NPF (0.581 kg/day) than NP (0.473 kg/day). Better live weight gains were obtained in autumn (0.869 kg/day). The stocking rate showed interaction with the season, with higher stocking rate obtained in NPO (701 kg of LW/ha) and NPF (667 kg of LW/ha) during the spring. The live weight gain per hectare from treatment NP (224 kg LW/ha) was smaller than NPF (310 kg LW/ha) and NPO (287 kg LW/ha). The herbage mass, dry matter content and, herbage allowance and height explained 60% of the average live weight gain. During the finishing phase (July 17th to December 10th of 2008), herbage mass and pasture height showed differences between managements and seasons. Stocking rate and green herbage mass showed interaction treatment x season. Animal production per area during the experiment was higher in NPF (259 kg/ha) and NPO (263 kg/ha) than NP (126 kg/ha). The average daily weight gain was higher for the Angus steers (1.087 kg/day) and during the winter (1.251 kg/day). The rib eye area did not show statistical difference between treatment and breeds on the slaughter day. The fat thickness showed interaction treatment x breed, where crossbred steers were fatter on NPF and Angus steers were fatter on NPO. Crossbred animals got lower slaughter weight (505 kg), however, higher yields of carcass (51.6%). Only steers kept on NP did not reach enough fatness to commercialization. Despite a good production of grasslands in its natural condition, the utilization of inputs promote better animal performance during de growing/fattening phase, allowing the slaughter of young steers whatever the breed. The pasture ambient allows different productive performance according to the genetic used. The crossbreeding is an alternative to increase important attributes on carcass and to reduce the finishing phase.
