Hygiene management procedures for breeder chicken farms in Japan
2015
In general, stringent hygiene management is required in breeder chicken farms to improve productivity of commercial chicken farms. In this article, we focus on several vertically transmitted viral, bacterial and fungal diseases that affect the productivities of breeder and commercial chicken farms in Japan. We reviewed the epidemiology of the diseases, and their clinical signs and the control procedures. To efficiently control these diseases, strict hygiene management in breeder farms is not enough, and the management of embryonated eggs in hatcheries is also required. In addition, cooperative management between breeder farms and commercial chicken farms is essential, because many vertically transmitted diseases are found in commercial farms but not in breeder farms.
