The seasonal prevalence and species composition of both Orius spp., which are important natural enemies of various pest insects, and their prey were investigated in an eggplant field at Meiji University Ikuta campus. Orius spp. first began to appear around mid-June, after which populations were maintained on eggplants. Although they suppressed the population density of pest insects, an apparent need exists to enhance this effect. In addition, O. sauteri was the dominant species in this field. These results are important as they pertain to one case in the Kanto region; they also provide basic information for further research in this field.
