'Saga i5' and 'Saga i9' are new strawberry cultivars for forcing culture which were developed at Saga Prefectural Agricultural Research Center in 2016. 'Saga i5' was selected from hybrid seedlings a cross between 'Amaotome' and 'Beni hoppe'. 'Saga i9' was selected from hybrid seedlings a cross between 'Sakei No.14' and 'Yayoihime'. 'Saga i5' is erect in growth habit and vigorous. The plant is taller than 'Sagahonoka'. The leaves are as large as 'Sagahonoka' and dark green. The flower buds differentiation of the terminal cluster is slightly later than 'Sagahonoka' and the start of the harvest is in the late of November. The continuity for the formation of the secondary and tertiary fruit clusters is inferior to 'Sagahonoka'. The fruit is larger and firmer than 'Sagahonoka', and the shape is rounded conical. The fruit skin is shiny bright red and the flesh is light red. Since the sugar content of the fruit is higher than 9% and its citric acid content is moderately high, the taste is good. The number of flowers per inflorescence is about sixteen and the number of fruits per plant is fewer than 'Sagahonoka'. The early and total fruit yield is slightly higher than 'Sagahonoka'. 'Saga i9' is relatively erect in growth habit and vigorous. The plant is taller than 'Sagahonoka'. The leaves are slightly smaller than 'Sagahonoka' and green. The flower buds differentiation of the terminal cluster is later than 'Sagahonoka' and the start of the harvest is in the middle of December. The continuity for the formation of the secondary and tertiary fruit clusters is inferior to 'Sagahonoka'. The fruit is slightly larger and firmer than 'Sagahonoka', and the shape is conical. The fruit skin is shiny deep red and the flesh is red. The sugar content of the fruit is as high as 'Sagahonoka' and its citric acid content is moderately high. In addition to these factors, the refreshing fragrance made the taste of the fruits good. The number of flowers per inflorescence is about eighteen and the number of fruits per plant is more than 'Sagahonoka'. The early and total fruit yield is higher than 'Sagahonoka'.
