Análisis cronológico y de riesgo por incendios forestales en páramos y bosques altoandinos en Colombia desde los años 70

Los busques son ecosistemas globalmente importantes por su papel fundamental en el ciclo del agua y hábitats ricos en diversidad biológica similar a los páramos. En Colombia, en las culminaciones altitudinales de las montañas se encuentran los pisos bioclimáticos glacial, páramo y altoandino, y cerca del 80% de los recursos hídricos potables que se producen tienen su origen en zonas de páramos y bosques altoandinos. Estos ecosistemas cada vez son más susceptibles a incendios forestales de origen natural o antrópico: Santurbán (feb 2019), Sumapaz (feb 2020), Cumbal (nov 2020). Dado que la muy alta cantidad y buena calidad del agua cruda rendida en estos ecosistemas es dependiente de las especies vegetales presentes allí, es muy importante evaluar el riesgo que por incendios hay en estos sistemas debido a la emergencia ambiental global y los efectos que, sobre cobertura vegetal y cantidad y calidad de agua, y otros servicios ecosistémicos, tienen y pueden llegar a tener estos. Así, en una ventana de tiempo desde 1970 a la actualidad, se identificaron patrones espaciales y temporales, impactos específicos sobre calidad del aire, aguas y suelo relacionados con incendios forestales en bosques altoandinos y páramos en Colombia. Con registros históricos de las instituciones competentes se identificaron los cuatro departamentos con mayor susceptibilidad a incendios forestales en relación con distintos factores climáticos y geográficos.

The busques are globally important ecosystems due to their fundamental role in the water cycle and habitats rich in biological diversity similar to the páramos. In Colombia, in the altitudinal culminations of the mountains are the glacial, páramo and high Andean bioclimatic floors, and about 80% of the potable water resources that are produced have their origin in areas of páramos and high Andean forests. These ecosystems are increasingly susceptible to forest fires of natural or anthropic origin: Santurbán (Feb 2019), Sumapaz (Feb 2020), Cumbal (Nov 2020). Given that the very high quantity and good quality of the raw water produced in these ecosystems is dependent on the plant species present there, it is very important to evaluate the risk of fires in these systems due to the global environmental emergency and the effects that, on vegetation cover and quantity and quality of water, and other ecosystem services, have and can have these. Thus, in a time window from 1970 to the present, spatial and temporal patterns were identified, as well as specific impacts on air, water and soil quality related to forest fires in high Andean forests and páramos in Colombia. With historical records from the competent institutions, the four departments with the highest susceptibility to forest fires were identified related to different climatic and geographical factors.
