In the Japanese plywood industry, a large amount of resin is collected in drying process of veneer sheets for plywood so that softwood such as Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) and Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis) are mainly used as material. So, it is necessary to develop a new utilization way of this resin. At first, we investigated the components that contained in the resin. Secondary, we carried out antimicrobial active tests against Fomitopsis palustris, Trametes versicolor, Aspergillus niger and Aureobasidium pullulans. By GC-MS analysis, sandaracopimarinol and ferruginol were main volatile components of the resin. According to Folin-Ciocalteu method, the total phenolic content was 0.88%. In the antimicrobial active tests, the resin showed effects of growth inhibition activities against Fomitopsis palustris and Trametes versicolor. On the other hand, the resin didn't show the effects against Aspergillus niger and Aureobasidium pullulans.
