A study of the incorporation of ¹⁴C- Mevalonic acid into the cytokinins of potato callus tissue: A report on experimental work submitted in part requirement for the degree of B.Sc (Hons) in Biochemistry
1975
Gray, J.S.
Potato tissue has been shown in a number of cases to lend itself readily to the production and subculture of callus tissue on artificial media. (1, 10, 15, 20, 56, 68). The presence of cytokinin activity in potato tuber was confirmed by Okazawa and Yozo (57) in 1970 using the soyabean callus assay. Anstis and Northcote (1) have shown that the callus tissue of the potato Solanum tuberosum var. King Edward produces and excretes cytokinin(s) in considerable quantity. Consequently this tissue was chosen for a series of experiments in which a study of the incorporation of ¹⁴C - Mevalonate ( ¹⁴C-MVA) into the cytokinins has been carried out.
