Climate information is available from meteorological seasonal climate forecasts (SCFs), and indigenous knowledge-based seasonal forecasts (IKFs). A number of projects have found that these forecasts are not received when farmers most need them. IKFs are produced locally by people who live in the area for which the prediction is made and are often based on generations of experience. Tailoring climate information to farmers’ and pastoralists’ local needs requires a number of steps, and a range of stakeholders need to be involved.
