Beurteilung von Kupfer- und Zinkversorgung von Milchkühen anhand von Serumuntersuchungen | Assessment of the copper and zinc supply of dairy cows with serum analyses

The influence of different copper and zinc contents in rations on blood serum concentrations was tested in a feeding trial over a total Of four lactations at the Institute of Animal Nutrition of the Federal Research Institute for Animal Health (FLI). A total of 30 German Holstein breed cows were tested in each experimental year. All animals received a diet based on maize- and grass silage ad libitum. The animals were divided into two groups; 15 cows (Group A) in each experimental year received concentrates supplemented with copper and zinc as recommended (GfE 2001), whereas the animals in Group B were offered a concentrate with roughly double the amount of copper and zinc. Blood samples were taken several times during the lactation from the jugular vein. The concentrations of copper and zinc in the serum were measured and correlations between trace element intake and their serum concentrations were calculated. The analysed copper concentration in the serum did not differ between the two groups and was on the minimum of the reference range (12-24 mu mol/l). There is no significant correlation between copper intake and copper concentration in the serum (r = 0.11). Consequently, analysing the copper concentration in the serum is not qualified to reflect at least a recommended supply. An increasing zinc content in the ration resulted in significantly higher zinc concentrations in the serum on several sampling times (4, 8 and 16 weeks after calving); the correlation between zinc intake and the zinc concentration in the serum was tendentially higher (r = 0.46) than for copper, but also not significant (p > 0.05). Individual variations between the animals are very important for the interpretation of the analysed results. Both between the different animals (inter-individual variation) and in one animal during the whole lactation period (intra-individual variation), the analysed copper concentrations in the serum ranged between 7 and 23 mu mol/l and the zinc concentrations in the serum between 7 and 24 mu mol/l. The reference ranges calculated by the results of the presented study is 8-19 mu mol/l for copper and 8-20 mu mol/l for zinc in the serum

In einem Futterungsversuch uber insgesamt vier Laktationen mit jeweils 30 Kuhen der Rasse Deutsche Holstein pro Versuchsjahr wurde am Institut fur Tierernahrung des Friedrich- Loeffler-Institutes (Bundesforschungsinstitut fur Tiergesundheit, FLI) in Braunschweig der Einfluss unterschiedlicher Kupfer- und Zinkgehalte in der Ration auf deren Konzentrationen im Serum untersucht. Als Grundfutter stand allen Tieren eine Mischung aus Mais- und Grassilage zur freien Aufnahme zur Verfugung. Die Tiere wurden in zwei Gruppen eingeteilt; je 15 Kuhe pro Versuchsjahr (Gruppe A) erhielten ein Kraftfutter, welches einen Kupfer- und Zinkgehalt entsprechend der Versorgungsempfehlungen der GfE (2001) aufwies, wahrend die Tiere in Gruppe B etwa die doppelte Menge der Versorgungsempfehlungen an Kupfer und Zink erhielten. Im Laufe der Laktation wurde allen Tieren Blut aus der V. jugularis ext. entnommen und die Kupfer- und Zinkkonzentrationen ermittelt. Trotz unterschiedlicher Kupferaufnahme war die Kupferkonzentration in beiden Gruppen nicht signifikant verschieden und lag an der unteren Grenze des Referenzbereiches (12.24 ƒÊmol/l). Zwischen der Kupferaufnahme und der Kupferkonzentration im Serum bestand keine Korrelation (r=0,11). Daher ist die Ermittlung der Kupferkonzentration im Serum wenig geeignet, eine mindestens bedarfsgerechte Versorgung zu erkennen. Eine Erhohung der Zinkzulage im Futter fuhrte an einigen Zeitpunkten (4, 8 und 16 Wo p.p.) zu einer signifikant hoheren Zinkkonzentration im Serum, die Korrelation zwischen der Zinkaufnahme und der Zinkkonzentration im Serum war insgesamt hoher (r =0,46) als fur Kupfer, aber ebenfalls nicht signifikant (p>0,05). Tierindividuelle Schwankungen sind bei beiden Spurenelementen von besonderer Bedeutung fur die Interpretation der Ergebnisse. Sowohl zwischen den einzelnen Tieren (interindividuelle Variation) als auch innerhalb eines Tieres wahrend der gesamten Laktation (intraindividuelle Variation) schwankten die ermittelten Kupfer- (7.23 µmol/l) und Zinkkonzentrationen (7.24 µmol/l) im Serum teilweise erheblich. Die aus diesen Ergebnissen ermittelten Referenzbereiche liegen fur Kupfer bei 8.19 µmol/l und fur Zink bei 8.20 µmol/l.
