The results of variability of Scot pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood properties (annual rings number in 1 cm, wood density, percent of late wood, bending strength and compression parallel grain strength) were analysed in this article. Annual rings number defines with the greatest variability in separate tree and stands. The smallest variability was determined in the wood density of trees and stands. Required number of trees and samples depends on variability and desired accuracy of analysed parameters. Not less than 6 trees and 42 samples from every tree must be examined for obtaining the wood properties with 10% accuracy for a single forest stand. Wood density and percent of late wood has the highest correlation with wood strength properties. Annual rings number in 1 cm, as an easy estimating parameter, has non-persistent and often low correlation with mechanical properties of wood.
