Resumo: O presente estudo pretende contribuir para um melhor conhecimento das exigências nutricionais e edáficas da Araucaria angustifolia (Bert) O. Ktze, especialmente com respeito às condições químicas do solo. Estes dados poderão contribuir a um incremento a longo prazo, do plantio da Araucaria angustifolia em sítios adequados no sul do Brasil. Foram visados os seguintes objetivos: 1) Elaborar uma metodologia de amostragem para avaliar o estado nutricional da Araucaria angustifolia, através de relações entre dados do solo, das acículas e do crescimento. 2) Estudar o comportamento dos elementos essenciais e não essenciais dentro da copa da Araucaria angustifolia, a fim de verificar o verticilo que é mais adequado como local de amostragem, para futuros estudos nutricionais. O estudo foi realizado na FLORESTA NACIONAL DE TRÊS BARRAS - SC (FLONA-IBDF) em plantios de Araucaria angustifolia, de 1950. Três sítios foram identificados numa topo-sequência, num espaço físico pequeno heterogêneo com respeito a pedogênese e ao crescimento (altura dominante), homogêneo com respeito aos outros fatores como localização geográfica, clima, tratamento silvicultural. Foram utilizadas em cada sítio, 4 árvores dominantes, sendo cada árvore dominante considerada uma repetição. Das árvores amostradas foram coletadas acículas de um ano de idade separadamente por verticilo e, com a metade superior do tronco de uma delas, por sítio, efetuou-se uma análise de tronco. Descrição do perfil e coleta de solo foi feita na frente de uma das árvores derrubadas em cada sítio. Foi utilizado a análise foliar para determinar os teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, Al e, como dados complementares, o peso de 100 acículas e o peso da cinza. O emprego da análise de tronco, possibilita a obtenção dos dados do incremento em altura dos últimos anos. Através da análise do solo foram determinados os teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Al e a textura. Por correlações lineares entre o número do verticilo e os teores dos elementos foi estudada a distribuição vertical destes na copa. Foi testada a utilidade da análise foliar para determinar o estado nutricional da Araucaria angustifolia, através de correlações lineares entre altura total das árvores de amostragem e incremento periódico anual e os dados analíticos foliares. Efetuaram-se também correlações lineares entre dados analíticos do solo e dados analíticos foliares. As conclusões para a área estudada são as seguintes: 1. Metodologia de amostragem na copa: - Alguns elementos, especialmente o cálcio, magnésio, manganês e ferro mostram uma distribuição vertical regular bem características na copa. - As condições edáficas parecem influenciar a distribuição vertical de elementos nutritivos na copa, especialmente os elementos cálcio, magnésio, ferro e manganês. - Em decorrência da distribuição vertical regular verificada, pode-se recomendar, como regra geral, para estudos nutricionais futuros, o terceiro verticilo como local de amostragem, porque representa bem o teor médio. 2. Relações entre o teor dos elementos nas acículas e dados de crescimento: Provavelmente devido às condições de pouco desenvolvimento do solo, nas condições do sítio III, a altura total das árvores de amostragem mostrou-se pouco apropriada como variável dependente. O incremento periódico anual (IPA(20-25)) apresentou uma estreita relação positiva com o teor de boro nas acículas. Por isto, o micronutriente boro pode ser considerado o atual fator limitante do crescimento e, em consequência, observou-se um efeito de acumulação dos elementos cálcio, magnésio, zinco e cobre nas condições do sítio III (com IPA(20-25) menor) e teores de boro altamente deficientes. Quando se compara os teores dos elementos nutritivos de povoamentos com produção de massa de acícula diferente se torna obrigatório determinar todos os elementos ou os suficientes, para se encontrar relações entre estes teores e dados de crescimento que podem ser interpretados fisiologicamente. 3. Relações entre o teor dos elementos nas acículas e o teor total dos elementos do solo. - Provavelmente existe um desequilíbrio de aceitação pelas raízes entre os antagonistas potássio e o magnésio e, da mesma forma, porém de uma proporção menor, entre o potássio e o cálcio.

Abstract: The present study intends to contribute to a better understandig of the nutritional and edaphic requirements of Araucaria angustifolia (Bert) O. Ktze, especially with respect to chemical conditions of the soil. The results derived from the present study are intended to allow to increase reforestation with Araucaria angustifolia on suitable sites in the southern Brazil. Therefore, the objectives of the study were the following: 1) To elaborate one methodology of sampling to verify nutritional status of Araucaria angustifolia, trough relationship of analytical data of the soil, data of foliar analysis and growth data. 2) To study the behavior of nutrients in the crown of Araucaria angustifolia, with main objective of verifying, the adequate whorl, for sampling locality, for future nutritional studies. The area of the study was located in the NATIONAL FOREST OF TRÊS BARRAS-SC (FLONA-IBDF) in plantations of Araucaria angustifolia, planted in 1950. Three sites were identified covering a topographic sequence in a limited area with different soil conditions. The study area was homogeneous with regards to the geographical factors (latitude, longitude and altitude, climatic factors, silvicultural treatments and forest history). Four dominant trees were chosen per site and each one was taken as a replication. The dominant height was defined as the 100 trees with largest DBH/ha (Method Assmann/Hummel). The trees were felled and neddle collection was done separately per whorl. The upper half of the trunk from one per site was collected for stem analysis. Profile description and soil sampling were made at a distance of 0,50m from one of the felled trees on each site. In the foliar analysis the following elements were determined: N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Al, Mn, Zn, Cu, B and the weight of 100 needles as well as the ash weight. Through soil analysis the following data were determined: N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Al and texture. Through stem analysis the height increment of the last years could be determined. By linear correlation between the number of the whorl and the contents of elements in the needles, the vertical distribution of the elements in the crown was studied. The usefulness of foliar analysis in assessing the nutritional conditions and requirements of Araucaria angustifolia was tested by linear correlation between the increment data (total height and current anual increment) and foliar analysis data. Linear correlation between the soil analytical data and foliar data was also made. The following conclusions were obtained in the study area: 1. Sampling methodology in the crown: - Some elements, especially calcium, magnesium, manganese and iron show a regular vertical distribution within the crown. - In the study area it seems that the edaphic conditions influence the vertical distribution of nutrient elements in crown, specially with the elements calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese. - It can be recommended to use the third whorl for foliar sampling, because it represented best the mean element content of the crown. Its usefulness is important in future nutritional studies. 2. Relationships between the element contents of the needles and growth increment data: - Due to very different physiological growth effects, caused by soil conditions of the site III (litosoils), the total height was not suited as an dependent variable factor; - The current annual increment determined as the mean annual increment of the last five years (CAI(20-25)) shows a close positive correlation with the boron content of the needles. Because of this fact the microelement boron my be regarded as the actual limiting growth factor on these sites. Together with the positive correlation between boron content and CAI(20-25), a negative correlation was observed between CAI(20-25) and the needles contents of Ca, Mg, Zn, and Cu. This made be due to an accumulation effect, which seems to be very clear on site III (with smallest CAI), where B was most deficient. - When comparing results of foliar analysis from stands with different needle mass production on different sites, it is necessary to determine the content of all nutrients or adequate, in order to know definitively which element limits the growth. In this work this could be observed in the case of the microelement boron. 3. Relationships between the contet of elements in the needles and their total content in the soil: - An unbalance seems to exist between antagonists potassium and magnesium in their absorption by the roots. A similar unbalance can be presumed between potassium and calcium but in an smaller extent.

Zusammenfassung: In vorliegender Arbeit wird versucht einen Beitrag zur Kenntnis der wachstumsbegrenzenden Faktoren der Baumart Araucaria angustifoliia (Bert) O. Ktze, insbesondere bezüglich des Nahrsubstrates zu erbringen Darauf aufbauend sollen auf lange Sicht Entscheidungshilfen für die Wiederaufforstung von Araucaria angustifolia in Südbrasilien erarbeitet werden. Folgende Arbeitsziele wurden aufgestellt: 1. Erarbeitung einer Methodik für die Abschätzung des Ernährungszustandes von Araucaria angustifolia, durch Korrelation von Bodenparametern, Nadelelementspiegelwerten und Wachstumsdaten. 2. Studium der vertikalen Verteilung der Nährelemente in der Baumkrone von Araucaria angustifolia, zur Betimmung der entsprechenden Wirtel für die Probeentnahme bei Zukünftigen Nährelementstudien. Die Feldarbeiten wurden innerhalb des staatlichen Forstes von TRES BARRAS, Santa Catarina (Floresta Nacional de Três Barras-SC) in einem 25-jährigen, gepflanzten Araukarienbestand durchgeführt. Es wurden drei Standorte mit unterschiedlichen pedogenen Eigenschaften innerhalb einer Toposequenz ausgewählt. Die nicht pedogenen Standorts- und Wachstumsfaktoren (geografische Lage, Klima, Bestandesgeschichte) waren Konstant. Auf jedem der gewählten Standorte wurden die Oberhöhenbestimmt und vier entsprechende Bäume (Wiederholung) ausgewahlt. Von jedem lebenden Wirtel wurden in nördlicher Exposition getrennt Nadelproben entnommen, wobei nur Nadeln mit A lter von weniger als einem Jahr berücksichtigt wurden. An der oberen Halfte des Schaftes eines der ausgewählten Bäume wurde die Oberhöhenentwicklung der letzten 15 Jahre bestimmt. Darüber hinaus wurden zur Bodenansprache ein Profil pro Standort in der Wurzelsphäre der analysierten Bäume gegraben und Bodenproben entnommen. Die Nadelanalyse umfasste die Bestimmung von N, P, K,Ca,Mg,Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, B, und Al sowie zusätzlich das 1OO-Nadelgewicht und das Aschegewicht. An den Bodenproben wurden Korngrössenverteilung sowie die Elemente N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, und Al im Gesamtaufschluss bestimmt. Die vertikale Verteilung der Elemente in der Krone von Araucaria angustifolia wurde durch Regressionen zwischen dem Gehalt an Nährelementen und dem Entnahmeort der Nadeln in der Krone (Nummer des Wirtels) bestimmt. Die nadelanalytischen Daten wurden darüber hinaus mit Wachstumsdaten (Oberhöhe und periodischem jährlichem Zuwachs der letzten fünf Jahre) korreliert, um die Brauchbarkeit der Nadelanalyse zur Bestimmung des Ernährungszustandes von Araucaria angustifolia zu Überprüfen. Bodenanalytische Daten wurden ebenfalls zu den Ergebnissen der Nadelanalyse in Beziehung gesetzt. Folgende Ergebnisse wurden erzielt: 1. Zur Methodik der Probenenthahme: - Einige Elemente, insbesondere Ca, Mg, Mn und Fe zeigen einen typischen vertikalen Gradienten in der Krone von Araucaria angustifolia . - Pedologische Bedingungen scheinen diese vertikale Verteilung der Elemente zu beinflussen, besonderes bei Cal cium, Magnesium, Eisen und Mangan. - Aufgrund des Gradienten in der Verteilung einiger Elemente in der Krone von Araucaria angustifolia wird der dritte Wirtel als zukünftiger Entnahmeort für Proben material empfohlen, da diese Position am häufigsten mittlere Bedingungen aufweist. 2. Bezüglich der Beziehungen zwischen Nährelementkonzentration und Waschstumsdaten ergab sich folgendes Bild: - Wegen der sich physiologisch sehr unterschiedlich auswirkenden Bodenbedingungen im Untersuchungsgebiet konnte keine Beziehung zwischen Nährelementkonzentration und der Oberhöhe gefunden werden. - Der periodische, jährliche Zuwachs der letzten fünf Jahre zeigte dagegen eine signifikante Abhängigkeit vom Borgehalt der Nadeln. Es wird daraus geschlossen, dass zur Zeit Bor das wachstumbegrenzende Nährelement im Untersuchungsgebiet ist. Dies wird durch die Tatsache bestätigt, dass niedere Borspiegelwerte mit hohen Ca-, Mg-, Zn-, und Cu-Werten verknüpft sind (Anreicherungseffekt), sodass signifikant negative Beziehungen zwischen dem Zuwachs der letzten fünf Jahre und der Konzentration dieser Elemente bestehen. - Dieses Beispiel zeigt, dass beim Vergleich der Spiegelwerte von Nährelementen and Beständen mit unterschiedlicher Nadelmasse alle oder eine grobe Zahl von Nährelementen bestimmt werden müssen, um physiologisch sinnvolle Beziehungen zu Wachstmsdaten zu findem. 3. Zur Beziehung Nährelementg ehalte in den Nadeln und im Boden: Es scheint ein Aufnahmeantagonismus zwischen Kalium und Magnesium und in schwächerer Ausprägung auch zwischen Kalium und Calcium zu bestehen.
