The use of hydro/chemical modeling in identifying the source of impact on the underground hydrosphere in conditions of potash production

The potash industry in Russia is based on the development of deposits of watersoluble mineral compounds of potassium chloride. Technologically, its operation involves the circulation of brines, which, due to their high ion concentrations and chemical activity, can have a negative impact on elements of the geological environment. In spite of applied measures on isolation and control of brine storage places, as a result of local filtration development there are cases of accident-free leaks into the elements of geological environment - rocks and ground waters, which are closed for direct observation. This is accompanied by the formation of a peculiar accumulation zone, which provides the accumulation of brines and their subsequent discharge in the form of groundwater outlets. The filtration process of brines is accompanied by their interaction with rocks and groundwater, leading to a change in the initial composition. Therefore, in the absence of direct signs of filtration, the procedure of unambiguous identification of the source becomes more complicated and requires additional work in the form of opening of the filtering zone by wells or tracing of mineralized fl ows by geophysical methods. Another direction is model hydro/chemical calculations based on the principles of physical chemistry in order to obtain information about the processes occurring in the geological environment that contribute to the transformation of mineralized aqueous solutions. Th e article discusses the experience of applying hydro/chemical modeling in identifying the source of formation of mineralized water solutions
