Long-term development trends in the least developed African countries
1980
As an introduction to the deliberations of the Conference, on the Problems and prospects of the Least developed African, countries it was thought necessary to provide a short review of the long-term development trends in those countries since 1960 with special reference to macroeconomic variables, namely, total GDP and GDP by industrial origin and expenditure type. The factors and constraints behind the disappointingly poor long-term development trends, the development potentials and prospects, suggested changes in domestic and international policies and details of the substantial new programme of Action for the 1980s are in other documents before the conference.
