Nanotechnology is an emerging modern innovation that aided in the development of nanofertilizers to help reduce chemical contaminants due to unabsorbed inorganic fertilizer from the soil. Nano-structured fertilizers can potentially increase the nutrient use efficiency through mechanism such as targeted delivery. FertiGroe sup R is an example of a nanofertilizer produced through enhancing nanomaterials, specifically zeolite. Development of a slow-release nanofertilizer can potentially minimize the losses while increasing the nutrient uptake efficiency. This trial was conducted to determine the efficacy of the FertiGroe sup R N, P, and K nanofertilizers in maize in farmers' field. Results of using conventional fertilizers, FertiGroe sup R nanofertilizers, and a combination of both were compared and analyzed. The trial was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replicates. Plants treated with FertiGroe sup R nanofertilizers N, P, and K and a combination with conventional fertilizers resulted in better yield compared to plants treated with conventional fertilizers alone and the control. Highest yield was observed using the mixed FertiGroe sup R N, P, and K nanofertilizers. Increase in yield while lowering rates of fertilizer application by 50% has increased the net profit by at least 30% compared to using the conventional fertilizers. In using the developed FertiGroe sup R N, P and K nanofertilizers, farmers may be able to achieve sustainability in maize farming while increasing yield and profit.
