Bunchy top infection was detected by PCR [Polymerase chain reaction] using the BBT1/BBT2 primer pair at 10 ng and 1 ng/mul DNA [Deoxyribonucleic acid] extracted by Dellaporta DINA extraction protocol. Genome sequencing detected BBTV [Banana bunchy top virus ] and ABTV [Abaca bunchy top virus] to cause abaca bunchy top, which confirmed abaca infection. Phylogenetic relationship analysis using the DNA-R genome component confirmed the groupings and genetic variability. Bicol isolates are ABTV, while the isolates from the Visayas and Mindanao are BBTV. These results have important implications in developing, screening, and deploying abaca-resistant genotypes against ABTD [abaca bunchy top disease].
