This study was carried out in Anambra and Imo States of Nigeria during the 2023 cropping season. Multi-stage sampling procedure which involved purposive and simple random sampling methods was adopted to select the sample size. Two states were purposefully selected due to the preponderance of cocoyam farmers. A total of 384 respondents were selected for the study using the simple random samplingtechnique (SRST). Data were collected using structured questionnaire and scheduled interview. Descriptive statistics, input and output regression model, and budgetary techniques were used to analyze the data. The study found that females dominated the enterprise. Majority of the farmers were experienced, educated, and married men and women in their active ages. The farmers were mainly subsistence cocoyam farmers who operated on a very small scale with high coefficient of variation in their output which was an indication of a high inconsistency in their input and output levels. The average net income of the cocoyam farmers was N387,544.13 per hectare with average return of N1.43 per Naira invested which showed that for every N1 invested, the cocoyam farmer realized N1.43. This indicted that the business was profitable. The study showed that cost of planting material (cocoyam corms) was a significant input variable that negatively influenced the cost of cocoyam production and recommended an agricultural policy direction that will reduce cost of inputs through subsidies especially on high-yield planting materials (Cocoyam corms).
