Do companion animals enhance social and emotional development in children?

Many parents believe that companion animals enhance their children development, especially social and emotional development. While some research supported this idea, there are still criticisms. This article discusses about parents’ roles if they want to use companion animal as an assistance to enhance their children’s social and emotional development. The article concludes that companion animals may have positively influence on children’s development under the condition of parent’s involvement. Also, there is an empathy room in this area to be filled
