Contribution of technical innovations to the productivity of village poultry farming in Madagascar | Contribution des innovations techniques à la productivité de l’aviculture villageoise à Madagascar

Inglés. Village poultry farming plays an important role in Madagascar. It accounts for 83% of the total poultry sector and 69.7% of the livestock sub-sector. Chicken farming ranks first with 83% of the livestock, followed by ducks (13%), geese (2%) and turkeys (2%). It will be a significant income-generating activity for poultry farmers if improved. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of introducing certain technical innovations in the management of indigenous chicken breeds. Therefore, vaccination coupled with deworming of chicks and the use of the "creep feeder" for chick rearing were chosen. The impact of these innovations was assessed on the mortality rate, the zootechnical performance of mother hens and the income generated for households. The evaluation of the results obtained supports the positive impacts of the proposed interventions, thus demonstrating the potential for improving farmers' incomes by adopting these innovations. Francés. L’aviculture villageoise tient une place importante à Madagascar. Elle occupe 83 % de la totalité de la filière avicole et 69,7 % dans le sous-secteur Elevage. L’élevage de poulet occupe la première place avec 83% du cheptel, suivi par le canard (13%), par l’oie (2%) et la dinde (2%). Il constituera une activité génératrice de revenu importante aux exploitants avicoles en cas d’une amélioration. L’objet de cette étude est d’évaluer l’impact de l’introduction de certaines innovations techniques dans la conduite de l’élevage de poulet de races autochtones. De ce fait, la vaccination couplée au déparasitage des poussins et l’utilisation du «creep feeder» pour l’élevage des poussins ont été choisis. L’impact de ces innovations a été évalué sur le taux de mortalité, sur la performance zootechnique des mères poules et sur le revenu généré aux ménages. L’évaluation des résultats obtenus est en faveur des impacts positifs des interventions proposées montrant ainsi la possibilité de l’amélioration des revenus des éleveurs en adoptant ces innovations.
