Water quality for irrigation of the Naranjo river watershed, municipality Majibacoa, province Las Tunas | CALIDAD DE LAS AGUAS DE LA CUENCA DEL RÍO NARANJO, MUNICIPIO MAJIBACOA, PROVINCIA LAS TUNAS PARA EL RIEGO

Inglés. The water quality is one of the studied elementswhen the watershed sustainability is valued. The objective ofthis research was to evaluate the water suitability for irrigationof the Naranjo river watershed. A sampling of six representativepoints of the watershed (three surfaces and three grounds)was carried out. The water quality was defined based on theguidelines of FAO and other specific indicators for irrigation.The ground waters are unsuitable for the irrigation ofagricultural crops and the superficial ones have slightrestrictions to moderate. Danger of alkalinization of soilsproduct of the bicarbonate concentrations exists in the waters.On the other hand the sodium of the waters can pass to thesoil solution and to substitute to the calcium and the magnesiumcausing the degradation of the soils.

La calidad de las aguas es uno de los elementosestudiados cuando se valora la sostenibilidad de las cuencas.El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la aptitud de lasaguas de la cuenca del río Naranjo, en la provincia Las Tunas,con fines de riego. Para el estudio, se tomaron seis puntosrepresentativos de la cuenca (tres superficiales y tressubterráneos). El muestreo se hizo en dos momentos, húmedoy seco. La calidad se definió en base a los criterios de FAO yotros indicadores específicos para el riego. Las aguas de lasfuentes subterráneas son no aptas para el riego de los cultivosagrícolas y las superficiales tienen restricciones ligeras amoderadas. Existe peligro de alcalinización de los suelosproducto de las concentraciones de bicarbonato en las aguas.Por otra parte el sodio de las aguas puede pasar a la solucióndel suelo y sustituir al calcio y el magnesio causando ladegradación de los suelos.
