Determination of Multiple Antioxidant Activities of Endemic Tricholoma anatolicum H.H Doğan & Intini Collected from Turkey Texto completo

Tricholoma anatolicum H.H. Doğan & Intini is known as the most prized mushroom species in Feke region of Turkey. This mushroom species is collected from Cedar (Cedrus libani) forests and therefore is named as Cedar mushroom in this region. It is collected and consumed by local collectors and also exported to Far East countries such as Japan by exporting companies. Therefore, it is important to investigate the nutritional and medical importance of this species. The aim of this study is to reveal the antioxidant activity of methanol extract in different concentrations (1, 2 and 4 mg/mL) of T. anatolicum H.H. Doğan & Intini collected from Feke district of Adana province of Turkey in 2015. In this study, it was determined that total phenolic content of this mushroom was 56 mg/kg. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide (NO) and reducing power (RP) activities given in trolox (µM) and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) given in FeSO4 (µM) were found as 449, 180, 337 and 2 at the highest concentration (4 mg/mL), respectively. As a result, it could be suggested that methanol extract of T. anatolicum H.H. Doğan & Intini has significantly antioxidant activity.

In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the anticancer activities of Cetraria islandica (C.islandica) extracts on MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines. Cell viability, protein levels, apoptotic cells number, F-actin distribution were measured. Cell viability of MCF-7 breast cancer cells was found to be reduced in a dose-dependent manner.EC50 values of C.islandica on MCF-7 cells were found to be 9.2047 E-5 g/ml (cell amount) by using intelligence system. Expressions of p53, caspase 3 and Bcl-2, were shown to be elevated after low doses of extract and diminished after high dose treatments. PPAR- protein level was decreased, although AMP-activated kinases-α1 (AMPK-α1) protein level was increasedin its extract groups. ERK1/2 protein level was also elevated in its extract groups. 125 mg/ml of extract treated cells show a low decrease in actin filament density. MCF-7 cells with C.islandica treatment for 24 h increased the apoptotic cell percentage, though the cells-treated with C.islandica for 48 was high necrotic cells percentage. Consequently, the C.islandica extract treatment causes to elevate ERK1/2 and AMPK-α1 protein levels, resulting in PPAR- and then triggers the apoptosis by modulation caspase-3 and P53 protein levels. Therefore, C.islandica might be a good candidate for anticancer tissue, especially soft tissue tumours.

This study carried out in 2015 and 2016 to determine phenological, pomological and some technological characteristics of 19 seedless mulberry genotypes of the Malatya Apricot Research Institute. Full-bloom periods of the genotypes varied between 27th of April (Poser 24-07) and 3rd of May (24 MRK 02); start of harvest dates varied between 15th of May (Poser 24-07) and 31st of May (Yediveren 24-08); end of harvest dates varied between 5th of July (Angut 009) and 30th of August (Yediveren 24-08). Fruiting durations varied between 50 days (Angut 009) and 95 days (Gemirgap Dutu 24-05). Of the pomological characteristics, average fruit weights varied between 0.77 g (Angut 009) and 2.46 g (Poser 24-07); water soluble dry matter (WSDM) contents varied between 15.50% (Topu Beyaz 1) and 29.60% (Angut 009). Of the technological characteristics, drying efficiency values varied between 15.79% (44 KE 10) and 39.94% (Angut 009), dry fruit color L values varied between 25.97 (Poser 24-07) and 50.20 (İstanbul Dutu 24-12). Based on present findings, Poser 24-07 genotype was found to be prominent with early fruiting and availability for fresh consumption; Yediveren 24-08 genotype with late fruiting; İstanbul Dutu 24-12 genotype with drying efficiency and Gemirgap Dutu 24-05 and Gemirgap Dutu 24-06 genotypes with their longer fruiting durations. Current findings may be beneficial in mulberry breeding programs.

Length–weight, length–length relationships and condition factors were estimated for two fish species (Chondrostoma regium, Barbus lacerta) caught between October 2014 and September 2015 in the 14 distinct locations of Karasu River, East Anatolia, Turkey. Minimum and maximum total length and weight were observed at 7.5 to 31.0 cm and from 5.7 to 280 g for C. regium, 7.0 to 24.0 cm and from 4.0-211 g for B. lacerta. The b values determined as 2.77 for Chondrostoma regium; 3.10 for Barbus lacerta. The types of growth were found negative allometric for C. regium and isometric growth for B. lacerta. The length-length relations between total, fork, and standard lengths for the two fish species were highly significant. The relative condition factor values were found to 1.102±0.013 for C. regium; 1.176±0.019 for B. lacerta. This study submits for the first time LWR, LLR and condition factor of two species in the Karasu River.

Bu çalışmada, Gümüşhane ilinde halk tarafından farklı tıbbi amaçlarla kullanılmakta olan atkuyruğu (Equisetum arvense) bitkisinin farklı polariteye sahip çözücülerle elde edilmiş ekstrelerinin toplam fenolik miktarı, antimikrobiyal ve antioksidan aktiviteleri incelenmiştir. Toplam fenolik miktarı gallik asit eşdeğeri olarak spektrofotometrik yöntemle ölçülmüştür. Antimikrobiyal aktivite, disk difüzyon ve mikrodilüsyon (MIC değeri) yöntemleriyle belirlenmiş; antioksidan aktivite ise ABTS [(2,2'-azino-bis (3-etilbenzotiazolin-6-sülfonik asit)] ve DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil) yöntemleri kullanılarak tespit edilmiş ve troloks eşdeğeri olarak hesaplanmıştır. Toplam fenolik miktarı, en yüksek etil asetat ekstresinde (108,9 mgGAE/g ekstre) tespit edilirken, en yüksek antioksidan kapasite etanol ekstresinde 15,76 µg/ml troloks eşdeğeri olarak bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, en yüksek antimikrobiyal aktivite etanol ekstresinde MRSA’ya karşı 4 µg/ml MIC değeri olarak tespit edilmiştir.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Karayaka koyunlarında dönem içi gonadotropin salgılatıcı hormon (GnRH) uygulamasının kızgınlık gösterme oranı ve ovaryum aktivitesi üzerine etkisini belirlemektir. Çalışmada en az iki doğum yapmış ve benzer vücut ağırlığına sahip 20 baş Karayaka ırkı koyun hayvan materyali olarak kullanılmıştır. Deneme başında tüm koyunlara ovaryum üzerinde mevcut olabilecek olan korpus luteum (CL)’un yıkımı için 1 ml PGF2α kas içi enjekte edilmiştir. PGF2α uygulamasından 9 gün sonra ise koyunlar rastgele iki eşit gruba ayrılmıştır. Birinci gruptaki koyunlara (n=10) 40 mg flugestone asetat içeren sünger vajina içine yerleştirilmiştir ve bu uygulamadan 14 gün sonra süngerler çıkartılarak, 1 ml PGF2α kas içi enjekte edilmiştir. PGF2α enjeksiyonunu takiben 36 saat sonra 1 ml GnRH kas içi enjekte edilmiştir. İkinci gruptaki koyunlara (n=10) ise mevcut olabilecek olan korpus luteum (CL)’un yıkımı için 1 ml PGF2α kas içi enjeksiyonun dışında herhangi bir uygulama yapılmamış olup, bu grup çalışmamızın kontrol grubunu oluşturmuştur. Bu işlemleri takiben her iki gruptaki bütün koyunlar Karayaka koçuna verilmiş ve 72 saat boyunca kızgınlık gösteren koyunlar belirlenmiştir. Kızgınlık taramasının sonunda bütün koyunlar kesime sevk edilmiş ve her iki ovaryum üzerindeki küçük (1-3 mm), büyük (>3 mm) ve toplam folikül sayısı ve CL sayısı belirlenmiştir. GnRH uygulaması yapılan koyunlar (%100) kontrol grubundaki koyunlara (%70) göre daha yüksek oranda kızgınlık göstermişlerdir. GnRH uygulaması yapılan koyunların her iki ovaryumundaki küçük ve toplam folikül sayısının ve CL sayısının, kontrol grubundaki koyunlarınkinden daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ancak büyük folikül sayısı bakımından deneme grupları arasında bir farklılık tespit edilmemiştir. Sonuç olarak bu çalışmada mevsim içi dönemde Karayaka koyunlarında sünger uygulaması sonrasındaki GnRH uygulamasının kızgınlık gösterme oranını yükselttiği ve ovaryum aktivitesini arttırdığı tespit edilmiştir.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the thought of food security provided in dairy products and the determinants in terms of manufacturers in South Marmara Region in Turkey. The primary data obtained from 70 dairy manufacturers were analysed by Factor Analysis and Logistic Regression Analysis. According to this, price fluctuation and increase in the distance from the place where the milk is provided, reasons such as corporatization are factors that cause the lack of food security in dairy products. On the contrary, the likelihood of providing food security in dairy products increases with the increase in financial sustainability, food safety, quantity of milk and dairy products, the ability to produce and store, the number of employees, the degree of milk use.

This paper aims to analyze: 1) food security of urban female-headed households (FHH) in Jambi Province, Indonesia; 2) socio-economic factors affecting the food security of urban FHH in Jambi Province. Primary data is raw data from the National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) Year 2016 in regencies/cities in Jambi Province. Food security of households is analyzed descriptively. The ordinal logistic regression model is used to analyze the socio-economic factors affecting the food security of urban FHH. The results of the study found that: 1) Of the total urban households in Jambi Province, there are 12.69 percent of FHH; 2) The proportion of urban FHH in Jambi Province that is categorized as food secure is 57,62 percent, as vulnerable is 13,33 percent, as questionable is 22,38 percent, and as food insecureis 6,67 percent; 3) Socioeconomic factors that have significant effect on food security of FHH are age, education, and employment status of female head of household, number of household members, education level of household members, and household final consumption expenditure per capita.

To examine polyamines (PAs) effect in modulating the drought induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG) in maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings (variety Khoibhutta, 8 day seedlings grown in petri dish in incubator) were subjected to 20% PEG (polyethylene glycol) followed by 20 µmol PAs, Putrescine (Put), Spermidine (Spd) and Spermine (Spm) with PEG solution for 48 hours. Sharp decrease in Relative Water Content (RWC), Chl a, Chl b, carotenoid (Car) and total pigment content was observed under drought compared to control condition, while PAs application reversed their decreasing trends. PEG significantly increased Reactive Oxidative Species (ROS) [superoxide (O2•−) and H2O2], Methyl Glyoxal (MG), Melondialdehyde (MDA) and Lipoxigenase (LOX) activity, while Pas decreased the contents considerably (except MG) as compared to those under drought. Drought increased proline content, which was further augmented in PA treatments. PAs failed to incline glyoxalase’s (Gly-I and Gly-II) activities, reduced under PEG. The activity and western blot confirmed the accumulation of Glutathione S-Transferase (GST) under drought, but PAs failed to augment the activity. Ascorbic Acid (AsA) and Glutathione (GSH) got oxidized into Dehydroascorbate (DHA) and oxidized Glutathione (GSSG) under drought but PAs effectively maintained homeostasis. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Peroxidase (POD), Ascorbate Peroxidase (APX), Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX), Monodehydroascorbatereductase (MDHAR), Dehydroascorbatereductase (DHAR), and Glutathione Reductase (GR) inclined in drought stressed seedlings, while Catalase (CAT) activity decreased under drought. PAs addition increased SOD, POD, GPX, CAT, MDHAR, and GR activities, but declined DHAR activity. These findings suggested important role of PAs in increasing tolerance under short term drought by modulating antioxidant effect.

This article describes genesis and the advances of schooling, research and extension of animal nutrition science and practices in Bangladesh. It portrays sine qua non of the advancement of animal nutrition, fodder production and frontier knowledge of allied disciplines. Domestic growth of good practices and its global and regional competitive advantages are delineated for supporting the growing need of safe animal sourced food pillared with profit, people, planet and the ethics of sustainable production of farm animals. A vision of becoming world middle income country with a national population plateau of around 202.0 million and demographic shifts by 2050 may require the annual production of 130.0 and 27.0 thousand tons of manufactured dairy and beef feed furthering global trading competitions for feed ingredients. This competition may be minimized through the production and supply of domestic sourced unique quality feeds and value additions to roughages. Capacity enhancement in research, education and extension will boost socioeconomic and the production efficiency of farm animals and enhance sustainable growth of feed industry racing with regional and global competitions.
