Subyanto, S. | Sulthoni, A.
The traditional technique of preservation against bamboo powder post beetle Dinoderus minotus F. is by dipping the material into the water or mud. The results of this experiment indicated that appropriate time of bamboo cutting has a significant level of resistancy against powder post beetle. In the area of Yogyakarta, the best time to harvest the bamboo is in January, as the carbohydrate content is in the lowest level (13.33%) and the damage is limited to 13.92% only. When the bamboo were harvested during the months of August until December, the level of carbohydrates was high (19.09-22.80%) and consequently the damage is also high (74.97-100%). Six weeks dipping of bamboo in stagnant water pond showed that the initial carbohydrate content decreased about 18%, but it was still susceptible to the pests damage (100%.). The carbohydrate content decreased at 57-59; after 8-12 weeks dipping the bamboo became resistant to the attack of bamboo powder post beetle.
