Three West African taxa of Meza Hemming (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) [Meza mabea, Meza bassa]

Confusion exists in the literature about the identity of two taxa of the genus Meza, M. mabea (Holland, 1894) and M. bassa Lindsey and Miller, 1965, although the third taxon of this complex, M. leucophaea (Holland, 1894), is easily distinguished. Numerical analysis failed to indicate any distinct clusters which could be associated with species or subspecies. Examination of male genitalia indicates that bassa, occurring from Nigeria to Sierra Leone, is a subspecies of leucophaea, the nominate subspecies of which occurs in Cameroon and Gabon. M. mabea, which is sympatric with M. l. leucophaea, is apparently a very rare species.
