Effects of salinity stresses on tobacco [Nicotiana], 2: Short term kinetics of Na(+) and K(+) uptake by callus cultures grown on media containing NaCl

It was shown that within 30 min most of Na(+) and K(+) uptake by tobacco calli had taken place. Ratios of Na(+)/K(+) in the tissue after 30 min were similar to those obtained after 24 h, but were somewhat lower than levels reached after 48 h. Levels after 48 h resembled those obtained after 28 d
