1982
Thirunavukarasu, S. (Veterinary Research Inst., Peradeniya (Sri Lanka))
The calf mortality in three hill-country state farms during 1970-74 was studied and compared with the findings of three previous studies. Data were obtained from the registers of births and deaths maintained in the farms. No significant differences in calf mortality existed among the farms. When the three farms were considered together the mean prenatal, post-natal and overall calf mortalities were 7.2, 12.1 and 17.8%, respectively. It was observed that post-natal mortality was highest among the 0-3 month old calves. There was no significant difference between male and female calves in post-natal mortality. Comparison of the findings of the present study with those of the three previous studies indicated that there has been no reduction in calf mortality
