Its overall objective is to determine the incidence of underlying reasons for, and the economic implications of non-adherence to irrigation schedules. The specific objectives are: (1) to describe and contrast the density of irrigation infrastructure in the irrigation schemes; (2) to describe and contrast the productivity and profitability of padi production on the banks; (3) to determine the relative importance of padi production in the overall economic life of padi farmers; (4) to describe and contrast the timeliness of water availability and the adherence of farmers to irrigation schedules; (5) to identify the factors for schedule non adherence; (6) to estimate the economic implications of schedule non-adherence. The methodology and results are elaborated
