The effect of carbohydrates on the growth and development of oilseed rape roots grown in vitro was investigated. Fresh weight increases of the roots were greatest on the medium with sucrose at a concentration of 120 mM and dry weight increases of the roots at 150 mM of sucrose. Sucrose was also an optimal carbon source for alongation growth of the main root (90 mM) and the development of laterals (120 mM). The laterals were formed on the medium with fructose, glukose and rafinose. However, they were shorter and less numerous than on the medium with sucrose.
