this study was to examine the cytological and histological mechanism of male sterility of potato, Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Irish Cobbler. Chromosome behaviour in meiosis of pollen mother cell was rather regular but dyad formation was prominent. The dyad formation was mainly caused by premature cytokinesis 1, pc 2, and parallel spindles were also found in some cells. But the dyad formation was not thought to affect the pollen failure. Degeneration of tapetal tissue was slower than in Shimabara. The incomplete development of inner anther love would be caused by the slow degeneration of tapetal tissue
