Studies on bark grafting for top working renewal of apple trees

The effects of grafting date, cultivar of scion, scion length, scion parts, storage condition of scion, scion diameter, grafting place, age of branch on the survival percent, growth and development of scion were studied in bark-grafting for top working renewal of apple trees (Malus domestica). 0.8 - 1.2cm of diameter scion seemed to be best. Scion taken from middle part showed the most shoot growth, flowering and 20m long scion had most shoot number. Scions stored in the ground were not usable up to June 10. Best storage method of scion was to keep it in a 5 deg C refrigerator
