The visible changes in harvesting-threshing arrangements included: increased labor participation of women and children, decline in the number of workers from outside the village and more frequent village meetings to settle sharing rates or wages. Changes in technology, institutions and demography affected farmers and workers differently. High yields from modern varieties increased the cost of operations and incomes of workers. Irrigation brought more harvesting jobs and neccessitated that operations be done more quickly. Increasing population and landlessness effected faster threshing, reduced incomes and cheaper labor
