Insecticidal applications and detasseling gave a significantly higher yield than the control. A combination of whorl or pre-tassel insecticidal treatment plus detasseling, either immediately after tassel emergence or after pollen shedding,was comparable to three or two insecticidal applications. Detasseling alone after tassel emergence gave a significantly lower yield than three insecticidal applications but was comparable to two applications or to a combination of pre-tassel treatment and detasseling
