Characteristics of harvest index and dry matter production in Tongil type rice varieties as affected by nitrogen application

This experiment was conducted to obtain basic information about physiological characteristics of dry matter production for recently released high yielding rice varieties. Most of the rice organs were increased with increasing N level in terms of dry weight while the degree of increase was greater for leaf sheath. Among the varieties used, Yushin, Milyang 23 and Tongil maintained relatively high harvest index for all N levels. Total dry matter production and harvest index were both closely related with sink size, sink/source ration, source activity and grain yield
