The coconut genetic resources of Thailand
1983
Harries, H.C. | Thirakul, A. | Rattanapruk, V.
The coconut genetic resources are under-exploited and recent advances in propagating hybrid coconuts make it important to evaluate the existing coconut populations before they are replanted. Foreign varieties have been introduced to Thailand, more are planned and both local and foreign varieties will be used for commercial hybrid seed production. Whether breeding high yielding varieties for plantation production of coconuts suitable for copra, or breeding varieties capable of growing under less than optimal condition for the production of large-fruited coconuts for the domestic market, the potential pest and disease hazards must be taken into account
