Performance of dwarf and normal sibs in different breed crosses for laying traits in the tropics [chickens]

White Leghorn males heterozygous for the sex-linked dwarfing gene were mated to females from 4 different breeds: Australorp, White Leghorn, New Hapshire and White Rock. The dwarf and normal sibs from the crosses were assessed for their laying performance at subsequent 4-week periods. Part year and full year records of these birds were also analysed. Highly significant differences between dwarfs and normal sibs for body weight, egg weight and feed consumption were obtained consistently while for egg number, significant differences were obtained for some laying periods. Differences in mortality were not observed. Differences among the 4 crosses were significant only for body weight and egg weight traits but not for egg number or feed consumption
