Biological notes, yield loss assessment and control of Helicoverpa species on tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.)
1983
Calaranam, M.M.
Eight promising insecticides of different formulations were evaluated against budworms in 3 provinces of Region I. The different insecticides showed varying levels of efficacy against budworms in terms of frequency of spraying, larval populations, damage rating and place of screening. However, the yield was not significantly different among the treatments based on the crop value. The order of decreasing benefits derived in treating tobacco plants was: in Batac - decamethrin acephate Ripcord methamidophos cymbush methomyl chlorpyrifos + BPMC permethrin; in Sta. Maria - methomyl methamidophos acephate; in Balaoan - acephate cymbush methamidosphos chlorpyrifos + BPMC methomyl carbaryl decamethrin permethrin Repcord. Based on the frequency of application and benefit derived from insecticides, the following can be recommended for general use for the control of budworms in three provinces: acephate, methamiphos, methomyl, decamethrin and cypermethrin (cymbush)
