Studies on precolostral immunization against hog cholera

This is a study on the effect of successful immunization of maternally derived antibodies in piglets and to evaluate the efficacy of the precolostral vaccination with LOM-E+ strain against hog cholera in the laboratory scale. Several vaccine strains including RK, LOM-E+, E- and LPC strains widely used in teh field were compared of their pathogenicities and immunogenicities in new born piglets. All the piglets vaccinated with these viruses produced desirable level of antibodies without any adverse clinical signs. Piglets from sows having neutralizing antibodies of 256 were immunized with LOM-E+ virus vaccine at varying times before intake of colostrum and followed immune responses of piglets by determining serum antibodies and preotective immunities. All the piglets precolostrally vaccinated showed secondary immune responses and withstood to challenge exposure at one and two months post vaccination
