This paper presents results of investigation to what degree different fractions of sized seed influence the yield of maize. Certain properties of the sized seed are described and the sowing quantities needed are determined. Only one hybrid, ZPSC 704 was investigated. The experiment was carried out on the chernozem type of soil. Four flat and four round fractions of the sized seed were tested. The investigation lasted 3 years. Various fractions of the sized maize seed have different number of seeds in 1 kg. This number varies between 2504 and 4783. The weight of the seed varied among fractions from 6.27 to 11.98. For the seeding rate of 60,000 seeds of ZPSC 704 hybrid it is necessary to use: flat, large fraction - 20.68 kg;flat, medium large -17.12 kg;flat, medium small - 14.78 kg; flat, small - 12.54 kg; round, medium large -19.58; round, medium small - - 16.14 kg; round, small - 14.56 kg. The influence of the seed fraction on the yield of maize is determined. The highest yield is achieved with large flat, medium large flat and medium small flat fractions. It was noticed that a higher yield of maize is achieved with most flat fractions of the hybrid tested.
