This paper investigates the capability of wheat crop to accept and utilize nitrogen added in earing through the above-ground organs, in the quantities that start causing leaf damages. The following wheat varieties were used in the investigation:Kg-56,Morava,Novosadska rana 2, Sava and Zlatna dolina. The N content in the 3 top leaves in the blooming stage increased, due to foliar top-dressing, from 2.55 to 3.44%, or expressed relatively, by 34%. The content and quantity of N in the above-ground parts increase too. The N share of single organs in the total quantity of N in the above-ground parts did not change notably under the influence of top-dressing. This was the average for all varieties. In full maturity, the quantity of N in the above-ground parts increased by 55-71 kg N/ha, due to top-dressing in earing. The ratio between the N concentration in the grain and in the straw, as well as in the distribution of N between the grain and straw did not change notably under the influence of foliar top-dressing. Concentrations and quantities of N in the straw were higher in the variants top-dressed with N in earing. The quantity of N in the above-ground parts in the after-blooming period increased by 39 kg N/ha in the control and 56 kg N/ha in the variants top-dressed with N in earing. Uptake of N by the wheat crop increased by 35%, expressed relatively, that being the average for all varieties. The increase of the dry matter in the above-ground parts in the period between blooming and maturing was somewhat higher in the variants with foliar top-dressing in earing. In case of foliar top-dressing, variety differences in the content and quantity of N in the above-ground organs came into prominence.
