The possibilities of using some food processing industry waste in feeding of fishes [carp, trout, Yugoslavia]

There are possibilities for breeding cold-water and warm-water fishes in SR Slovenia(SFRY). Both social and private production is possible. It is necessary to activate the possibilities unused so far (850 ha at least). One of the main obstacles for spreading pisciculture is fish food. It is necessary to make use of the natural feeding possibilities and domestic food sources, industrial offal first of all. The paper gives the results of investigating feeding of trouts taken from a numerous fish population in a fish-pond. The fish were over 15 cm long and weighed over 10 decagrammes. The experimental meals consisted of 50% slaughtering offal and 50% usual fish food ingredients. The fish were divided into 2 groups. Breeding of each group was at the area of 3 m3, at the temperature of 7-9'C. Group 1 was given the following meals (R1):20 kg of fish heads and sardine entrails, 6.5 kg of rape pomace, 4 kg of sunflower pomace, 2.5 kg of soybean flour, 1 kg of fish meal, 1 kg of standard trout food, 0.1 kg of broiler premix and 0.1kg of salt. Group 2 was given meals composed as follows(R2):20 kg of fish catch offal(the fish not used in human nutrition), 4 kg of rape pomace, 2 kg of sunflower pomace, 2.5 kg of soybean flour, 1 kg of fish meal, 1 kg of standard trout food, 0.1 kg of broiler premix and 0.1 kg of salt. At the end of the experiment the fish from group 1 had grown up to 21 cm on the average, weighing 14.3 decagrammes and those from group 2 had reached the length of 23.3 cm, weighing 17.1 decagrammes. The results of experimental feeding of carps with ox blood(slaughtering offal)are given too. 567 one-year-old carps were used for the experiment. The increase was 23.73 kg. The food utilization coefficient was 4.08. The paper also describes the way of processing slaughtering offal for fish food.
