Evaluation for resistance to Ascochyta rabiei in chick pea's varieties and populations, under autumn sowing
1983
Iliadis, C.G. (Fodder Crops and Rastures Institute, Larissa (Greece))
In order to face chick-pea's Ascochyta blight (Ascochyta rabiei Pass) which is the main problem in its cultivation. 174 varieties collections from different countries and 15 Greek-populations, were evaluated for resistance to ascochyta under autumn sowing in a trial which carried out for three years in Larissa. 37 small-seeded varieties were found resistant to Ascochyta, while all Greek-populations are susceptible. The most resistant variety is M-11354 because it combines desirable characters as, yellow seed color, resistance to winter's frosts, and fitness for mechanical harvest. Resistance with good agronomic characters are also the varieties E-119, E-124 with brown and M-1690 with yellow seed colors. In Greece, where large and middle seeded varieties, are cultivated this resistant material will be used in crosses with large seeded chick-peas in order to create large seeded resistant varieties
