The brain acetylcholinesterase (AChE) of calf, rabbit and rat was extracted and its concentration and specific activity were measured and compared. The concentration as well as the specific activity of AChE were found to be markedly higher in the caudate nuclei of calf brains than in the brains of either rabbit or rat. Subsequently the AChE from the caudate nuclei of calf brains was extracted with acetone into a highly stable powder preparation which contained 65% of the original total AChE activity and 80% of the total nitrogen content of the calf brain caudate nuclei
