The effect of soil texture, fertilizer and cultural environments on the growth and crude saponin of Chinese bellflower (Platycodon grandiflorum DC) were studied to obtain basic information for the establishment of cultivation techniques. The most proper soil for the culture of Chinese bellflower plants seemed to be sandy loam. Promotion of growth by phosphorous and potassium. Content of N, P, Ca and Mg showed the highest peak at around Jul 15 in leaf and stem as well as in root. Content of potassium showed a gradually decreasing trend in leaf, stem and root
