Response of two major predators of Spodoptera littoralis Boisd. to certain juvenoids

The effects on the predators, Coccinella undecimpunctata L. hormone (JH) II and some selective juvenoids, were described. The juvenoids had proved earlier to exert potent JH morphogenetic activities against the cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis Boisd. (Lepidoptera). These compounds were administered to both the predator species either topically or indirectly using the devour-through approach, whereby newly-hatched larvae of the cotton leafworm, treated with the test compound, were employed as a prey. The results obtained would seem to favour the practical prospects of juvenoids as ideal pest management agents since they appeared to impose negligible detrimental effects on such beneficial organisms.
