Design and development of abaca dryer
1985
Dumaluan, D.L.
Using eight burners with 8 briquettes each, fibers from 100 stalks of abaca were dried within 2 hours. When the height of the drying platform was increased to 23 cm, the highest temperature of air at the plenum chamber was reduced to 67 C and the burning duration was 3 hours. The drying time of the fibers was about 2.2 hours for a given sample but the fiber quality was slightly inferior due to its contact to soot. Fiber from the outer leaf sheath dried fastest. Drying time was comparatively shorter using coconut husk than using briquette as a source of heat. Besides, fiber color seemed significantly affected. The modified abaca dryer costs P2,648.12
