Micronutrient in soil and flue-cured tobacco; 3: Evaluation of some factors affecting the interpretation of results of chemical analysis

Results of micronutrient analysis showed differences in values due to sample preparation and inter laboratory errors. In sample preparation of flue-cured tobacco leaf samples, about 25% and 50% reduction in error for manganese and iron, respectively, were obtained by washing the sample with 0.1% teepol, 0.1 N HCl and distilled water solution treatments. Grinding the leaves using Wiley will not affect the concentration of the micronutrients as when grinding them with agate mortar and pestle. Significant differences observed due to inter laboratory errors could be attributed to differences in analytical techniques and instruments, particularly the atomic absorption spectrophotometer
