The powdery mildew disease of rambutan is caused by Oidium nephelli Hadwidjaja. Young and actively growing vegetative and reproductive parts (flushes, shoots, flowers and fruits) are susceptible to the attack by the pathogen while old leaves and fruits are not. Early infection on fruits by the pathogen causes slow development, deformation, necrosis and shortened spines. Late attack on fruits causes brown discoloration. The disease is present during the whole year round in the partially shaded nursery where relative humidity ranged from 71 to 81 percent. Fruits of sweet clones are more susceptible to the disease than fruits of sour clones. Under laboratory room conditions, the mature spores were capable of high germination 76-100% when kept for one to three days in dry receptacle
