1983
Bautista, J.T. | Tan, A.H. | Pambid, A.
In both locations, plant height at 60 and 105 DAT, total number of harvested leaves, leaf area and breadth index, and cured weight of tobacco were similar when planted alone or in combination with legumes. The number of harvested leaves ranged from 40-44 in Cabagan and 30-32 in Echague. Cured yield ranged from 1.6 to 2.1 t/ha in Cabagan and 1.2 to 1.5 t/ha in Echague. No difference was observed on the grade index at Cabagan. However, in Echague, tobacco alone and tobacco intercropped with cowpea and mungbean has the highest grade index (4.8) whereas tobacco intercropped with snapbean had the lowest (4.3). Among the intercrops in Cabagan lima bean yield was highest with 93.1 kg/ha followed by mungbean with 473.3 kg/ha then unshelled peanut with 404 kg/ha. In Echague, cowpea gave 328.1 kg/ha followed by lima bean with 323 kg/ha then unshelled peanut with 307.1 kg/ha. Based on the results, the following are good intercrops for cigar filler tobacco: mungbean, lima bean, and peanut for Cabagan; mungbean and cowpea for Echague
