Development of sampling plan and population table for corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee) (Pyralidae:Lepidoptera)
1983
Camarao, G.C.
An optimum number of 1 and 2 samplings per season and 1 block per sampling was found to be sufficient when sampling for the eggs and larvae, respectively. The number of plants to sample per sampling occasion for a 10% standard error of the mean density was 1408 and 420 when sampling for eggs and larvae, respectively. The number of plants to sample per block for a 10% standard error was 1538 and 437 for the eggs and larvae, respectively. The population table for the corn borer developed from one cropping season showed the expectation of further life, calculated from the expected eggs, was 27,539 individuals for the next generation. The trend index which is the ratio of the previous generation with respect to the present generation of the same cropping season was 0.63. The generation survival which is an index of population trend excluding fecundity was 0.067 and the proportional charge in the population over the previous population was 9.51
