Observation on the reaction of promising clones (1970-1979 series) to downy mildew of sugarcane

Experiments were conducted to determine the resistance of susceptibility of Phil clones to downy mildew of sugarcane caused by Peronosclerospora sacchari. The method of infection was done by planting test clones in between rows of downy mildew infected canes. A week after planting the test cane, sweet corn seeds were planted within the test rows to serve as additional source of infection. These were observed from the first to the sixth month after planting. Results showed that out of the 510 clones tested, 238 were found resistant to the disease; 119 were moderate, and 153 were rated susceptible
