1984
Virtucio, A.A. (Economic Garden, Los Banos, Laguna (Philippines))
Field evaluation of fifty processing tomato breeding lines were conducted under the Single Seed Descent (SSD) trial at the BPI [Bureau of Plant Industry], Economic Garden in 1981. Subsequent selection and seed increase were made during the DS 1981-82 and DS 1982-83. In DS 1983-84, on farm trials of 5 selected AVRD processing tomato breeding lines were conducted to evaluate the yield and processing qualities of these lines. The results on yield evaluation are as follows: C12784-1-1-4 produced best in Tagaytay City with yield of 27.7 tons/ha, C12784-1-2-5-2 produced best in Trece Martirez while yield of 28.5 tons/ha, and Cl 2784-8-1-1 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna with 17.7 tons/ha. Likewise, monthly planting study at Tanza, Cavite showed that November planting produced the highest grand mean yield of 34.3 tons/ha. On the other hand, quality evaluation yielded these results: C12784-1-1-2 has the lowest pH of 4.12, highest solid content of 7.6% was observed in C1 2784-1-2-5-2 and except for C1 2815-1-1-7 with red orange in color, all entries exhibited an intense red pigmentation
