Effect of some [2-chloroethanol; thiourea 1 percent (w/v); CaCn2 20 percent + Merit 50 percent] chemicals and types of pruning on bud burst and the number of flower clusters in 323/58 GM and SV 1/72 [wine grapes]

323/58 GM and SV 1/72 wine grape buds were treated to determine the effects of 20 percent calcium cyanamide (CaCN2) plus 50 percent Merit at the rate of 1:1 (v/v), 1 percent thiourea (w/v) or ethylene chlorohydrin (2-chloroethanol) in water at the rate of 1:5 (v/v) together with the number of buds per spur (5,7 or 10 buds) on the increase of bud burst and flower clusters. Application of CaCN2 in combination with Merit resulted in the highest bud burst 4.1 and 1.4 buds in 323/58 GM and SV 1/72 grapes. The figures were different from those obtained with other treatments. There were no differences in the number of flower clusters in 323/58 GM. cultivar. Spurs with 5-7 buds tended to produce the highest number of flower clusters of 1.2-1.3. As for SV 1/72, differences were noted in the number of flower clusters as affected by chemicals CaCN2. Merit gave the highest number of 1.3 but not by types of pruning (5, 7 and buds) which produced 0.8, 0.7 and 0.8 flower clusters respectively
